Denver, Colorado

“Thar’s gold in them thar hills! Pike’s Peak or Bust” More hype than actuality as it turned out, the slogan drew fortune seekers to Denver environs in 1858 and many stayed. Forged on the eastern slope of the Rockies, the city grew as a supply center for westward-bound wagon trains. The railroad’s arrival in 1870 brought another wave of settlers, plus grist mills for western wheat and numerous stockyards. Today, a skyline of modern office towers marks Denver as the Rocky Mountain region’s principle commercial, financial, and industrial hub. Food traditions in the mile-high city reflect its diverse population and frontier town history, from hearty cuts of beef to buffalo steaks. Teeming with baristas, drive-throughs, brewpubs, pork mains, superb Tex-Mex fare, Asian restaurants, sandwiches (maybe the Denver or Western omelet/sandwich was invented here, although food historians wonder), and barbeque, of course, Denver offers an all-American feast.

Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

Reviewed on Oct. 13, 2008 by Zuzana
This was a nice surprise. I was worried about condensed milk to be overpowering but it was not. It definately does not have the texture of cheesecake I like but it was still very good. I used oreo crust and more fresh raspberries. Very nice combinaton of flavors.

Vegetarian Tortilla Stew

Reviewed on Oct. 13, 2008 by nance martin
Oh. My. Gosh. and Holy Cow, too!! I only made this b/c of all the great reviews, so in case there's someone else out there like me, I thought I'd better add another! This was SO good, and (for once) I followed the recipe exactly. (Well, I planned to, until I realized I had tortilla chips, not corn tortillas.) That being said, I added the chips and cheddar cheese at the end, and it was better than the Tortilla Soup they served at Chili's when I worked there. Thank you so much for this recipe. This will DEF become my new favorite "comfort food!" BTW, it would be just as good w/o the "chicken."

Absolutely Amazing Ahi

Reviewed on Oct. 11, 2008 by FROMMICHIGAN
This was very tasty. Reduce the soy sauce because it was too salty with the amount called for in the recipe.
